2018 Ford Edge Review

Keeping up with Ford's unsurpassed versatility, the 2018 Ford Edge satisfies the needs of a different type of crossover shopper. It appeals to those who want a passenger vehicle that's larger than the Escape, but don't quite want the three-row Explorer, or want some SUV capability, but don't need the ruggedness of the Expedition.

Drivers in Raytown, Lee's Summit, and Blue Springs can learn more about everything that the Edge has to offer with this in-depth model review by our team at Dick Smith Ford.

The base engine for the 2018 Ford Edge is a 2.0L EcoBoost® turbocharged I-4 that produces 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. With this configuration, the Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which outperforms its previous generations.

The mid-level engine option is a 3.5L V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, and the upper-level Sport option is a 2.7L V6 that produces 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. All Edge engines are mated to a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission.

Regardless of engine choice, the Edge is precise and composed. Its handling is more like a sedan than an SUV, which makes it a fun, sporty ride, and its maneuverability is great for tight spots or winding roads. The Edge Sport trim also comes with adaptive steering and all-wheel drive.

Comfort & Space

Finding a sweet spot between the compact utility vehicles and the large, boxy SUVs, the Edge comfortably seats five adults and their cargo. There's ample space available for all passengers, and the contoured seating is comfortable for long rides.

With the rear folding seats, the Edge offers 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space (near best for its class). Plus, there are multiple small bins, a deep center console, and deep door pockets for small-item storage. It also has a wide opening for the cargo bay and a power release button for the rear bench.

Technology & Features

The Edge comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, Bluetooth® connectivity, and a rearview camera. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable seating, dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors, blind-spot monitors, navigation, rear parking sensors, and satellite radio are all available in higher trim levels.

Ford's SYNC® 3 infotainment system is also available, which is one of the most intuitive and responsive on the market. The menu is exceptionally easy to navigate, the voice command system easily recognizes commands, and the touchscreen display is crisp and clear.

Some other options for the Edge include heated and ventilated seating, a hands-free tailgate, an upgraded sound system, and a suite of additional active safety features like Active Park Assist and Forward Collision Warning.
